Consttutional remarks: For Zimbabwe by Zimbabweans..

12 years ago | 5040 Views

Thankfully the constitution process is about to end. Mind you l am not implying that it has been a waste of time and resources but it has to be noted that there have been interesting happenings from “You know who” jumping on tables and singing revolutionary songs to the debate and issues raised by the people.

What we have to realize is that this is an opportunity for the people of Zimbabwe to express themselves fully and clearly. The voting process l believe which the country will undertake in the near future to accept or reject the constitution will be fundamental for future generations because this constitution l believe holds the key for a prosperous and successful Zimbabwe either way of the voting spin offs. It has to be noted that for the constitution to be wholly accepted by the people the general populace, the populace has to buy in the process and document. That can only be achieved once the numerous Zimbabweans discern that their views not those of MDC-N, ZANU-PF, MDC-T or any other influencing agent in Zimbabwe are paramount in the would be constitution. The principals, political parties and all the people involved in this process have to be reminded that this is a process for Zimbabwe and henceforth the views that have to be paramount are from the very same people. We do not want the Kariba draft, we do not want any negotiated paper but we want our views, voices and words to be clearly outlined in that document period.

It also should be noted that there are some elements that are clamoring for the general populace to post a NO vote. My advice to those people you are wasting your time. Be productive and render your energies elsewhere as the people of Zimbabwe will not dance to your tune. We will make up our own mind by proper analysis of the document in addition to checking whether the things we outlined in the outreach process are in the document. That will be the basis of the vote that Zimbabwe will take, that and no other. No amount of hullabaloo, no amount of media advertising, no amount of money, no words from the political parties, neither can the words of Mugabe, Tsvangirai, Ncube, dabengwa, or the so called professors will allow us to sale our birthright for a pot of soup. No never.

It has to be noted that most of the people voiced their discontent at the current status quo, on the way that the structure of government is like and advocated for devolution and as such we should have it in the document. One philosopher once said if you are to do something, do it to its fullest. Bringing the point home l believe a document with a half baked policy on devolution should not be part of the constitution but a fully fledged form of devolution. I believe devolution empowers the people and since ZANU-PF is on an empowerment crusade, MDC-T sees itself as the champion of people`s rights and MDC-N believes it has the people at heart they should deliver devolution in its fullest form and do away with half baked policies.

I hope sanity will prevail and the people elected by the people to be in government will justify our faith be it MDC-T, ZANU-PF OR MDC-N. One thing that these people should reinforce in their minds is that elections are just around the corner and they shall be judged by their contribution and one of those areas is the constitution. If they out did themselves they can safely say Zimbabwe will give them another mandate to lead again but if otherwise they can kiss that chance goodbye. That should not be interpreted as saying they should beat people to vote for them because that is tantamount to the spirit of leadership as leader are servants. (Oh by the way some don’t have the leadership spirit)

Lastly lets hope at the coming all stake holder conference there will not be anyone jumping on top of the tables.
